LIKE A GIRL.

July 22, 2016

I am a middle child, sandwiched between two brothers, who grew up in a neighborhood made up entirely of all boys. We played endless sports- tackle football, street hockey(I played goalie), we built ramps, made all kinds of forts, and I stood out in a sea of boys because I was the ONLY girl. I never cared, I just wanted to play. I was always treated as an equal and was rarely picked last when we would divide teams. I share this because very early on and by early on I mean like age 3, I always had this, "girls can do it too" attitude. People who didn't know me never took me seriously until I started to play because I was a "girl." Unfortunately this mentality of just thinking "I am a girl" still carries on today. I've noticed that when it comes to talking sports, I definitely get a side eye from some grown men thinking I don't know what I'm saying because I am female and guys often don't step away from the pull-up bar because they don't think I have any reason to be up there. So, I want to let you in on a little background - that when I post videos that seem to be a little far fetched or advanced, I'm not doing it for some trick show or for attention or even for likes, and if you know me, I'm definitely too much of a diva to risk breaking my face as people seem to think. Chances are, I saw a big guy doing it and thought hey, I can do that, WE can do that (Insert a pushup guru + MLB @bryceharper squatting on a stability ball) and want to stamp a big YES WE CAN for girls of allll ages. I want the girls I coach to feel just as equal and as strong as the boys on the other side of the court, I want my female clients to feel empowered and I want all of you to feel inspired and motivated. I'm not some raging feminist and growing up with all boys definitely has not turned me into a man hater because two of my biggest supporters to this day are my brothers. I am incredibly passionate about promoting strength, power, resilience and I think it is very important to break the ceiling and raise the bar. If you know me, this isn't for show. This is for the badass women who keep pushing boundaries. ✌️ (Rant inspired by a wide range of social media comments.) #strength
